From the North to the South, with Sucèa in the middle…
In the hinterland, less than 20 km to the north of Sucèa farmhouse, Baroque high golden bell towers rise up in Lecce, which is like a proud queen wrapped into elaborate sculptures carved in “Lecce’s stone” and “Carparo” (particular kind of limestone). As you move from Lecce, and follow the direction North-South, you could go through the whole Salento area, with its fascinating small towns and villages, treasure chest of artistic beauty and wine-and-food peculiarities and stories . For example, you could taste the delicious wines from Leverano and marvel at the artistic magnificence of Nardò , go to see Copertino, home to the Saint who could fly, St. Giuseppe, taste the typical cakes “pasticciotti” made in Galatina. In this town, consecrated to St. Paul, women bitten by tarantula (“Tarantate”) used to gather in order to recover from insanity. From here, you could also be absorbed in the elegance of Maglie, or in the circles of out-of-control, sensual dancers in Melpignano, seat of the famous event “Notte della Taranta” (Night of Taranta); you could also have dinner in the typical trattorias of the magical village of Specchia or anywhere near it, until you move down towards the last point of Italian mainland, the finibus terrae, the picturesque Santa Maria di Leuca, the end of Italy, where the Adriatc meets the Ionic with a big Mediterranean hug .
